A price list that helps people choose: how to name, describe and group your services
Forty services with no descriptions — and the client writes "what's the difference?". How to lay out a price list so people understand what to choose in a minute and book on their own.
A price list isn't just a list of prices. It's the first thing people use to decide whether you're right for them, and the second thing (after photos) that makes them book or not. We covered how to calculate the prices themselves in a separate article. This one is about how to present them.
The most common problem: too much and too little
Too many services. Forty lines, half of which differ by a single word. The client gets lost and messages you "which one should I pick?" — or closes the page.
Too little information. "Manicure — €30, manicure+ — €40." What's the "+"? How long does it take? Is polish included?
A good price list lets people choose without asking.
1. Categories based on what clients look for
Group by the client's need, not by technique:
- Hands
- Feet
- Haircuts
- Colour
- Brows and lashes
Within each category, put the most popular service first. A client looking for the most common thing should find it in seconds.
2. Names the client understands
Trade jargon is clear to you, not to the client. If you use a technical term, add an explanation:
- not "Combi" but "Combination manicure";
- not "Airtouch" but "Airtouch colouring (natural lightening)";
- not "Infill 3" but "Extension infill (after 3–4 weeks)".
Names matter for Google too: people search for "gel polish", not your internal label.
3. A one-sentence description
A description should answer three questions: what's included, who it suits, what the result is.
Combination manicure with gel polish. Cuticle work, nail shaping and long-lasting polish in one shade. Ideal if you want neat nails for 3–4 weeks.
Short — but enough that "what's the difference?" no longer comes up.
4. Duration next to the price
Duration helps clients plan their day and explains price differences. "Colour — 2 h 30 min" says more than any description about why it costs more than a haircut.
5. Options instead of separate lines
If the price depends on hair length or design complexity, don't create three separate services. Use one service with options:
- Cut and colour — from €65
- short hair — €65
- medium — €80
- long — €95
The list is shorter, and the client still sees the exact price.
6. Packages and add-ons
- Packages — services people often book together: "Manicure + pedicure". Convenient for the client, and one longer visit instead of two for you.
- Add-ons — small extras: nail art on one nail, a mask, a paraffin treatment. Show them in a separate category or in the service description.
7. Clear out once a quarter
Check which services nobody booked in the last three months. Usually they can be dropped or merged with others. Every unnecessary line makes choosing harder.
8. The same price list everywhere
Instagram highlight, Google Business Profile, your own page — the same services and prices everywhere. Different prices in different places create distrust and disputes.
What to avoid
- Prices ending in .99 — a beauty service isn't a supermarket.
- "Price on request" with no guide at all — most people simply won't ask.
- Services you don't offer or rarely offer — they create expectations you won't meet.
What it looks like in edapi
Services are grouped by a category you type freely, and you change the order with arrows — clients see them in the same order. Each service has a name, description, duration and price; if needed, up to 12 options — then the page shows "from €X", and the client picks an option when booking. Inactive services aren't shown on the page, but their history stays.
What to do tomorrow
- List all your services and mark those nobody booked in 3 months.
- Group the rest by client need.
- Write a one-sentence description and the duration for each.
- Merge services that differ only by length or design into one with options.
- Check that prices match on Instagram, Google and your page.
